Funding version 1.3 is currently under review/update. This review/update, will also address the Separate fields for ‘research funder’ and ‘publication funder’ request.

In our OA Switchboard community (and also in the NISO Working Group for Recommended practice on OA Business Processes, for which I serve as co-chair together with Amanda Holmes), we talk about the important difference between ‘research funder’ and ‘publication funder’. In our schema, we have separate fields for these and are wondering how this is being dealt with in the JATS XML. So far, I see publishers who cover both the research funder(s) and the publication funder(s) in the same way in the article funding statement. This is very confusing and needs an alternative approach. Is this a topic I can request to be covered during the Open Session at the JATS-Con?
